Operating Drill Press

NOTE: WHEN OPERATING THE ROPER-WHITNEY HYDRAULIC SHEAR, MAKE SURE THAT THE SHEET METAL THICKNESS AND TYPE OF MATERIAL DOES NOT SURPASS THE SHEAR CUT CAPACITY.

  1. Wear safety glasses.

  2. Make sure the cutting area is clean without debris.

  3. Check power cords, hydraulic lines for damage and leaks.

  4. Verify Hydraulic fluid level. Refill as needed.

  5. Power up hydraulic shear system. Make sure if it is operating properly.

  6. Inspect foot pedal operation, safety guards and check for any leaks.

  7. When ready, place sheet metal or piece to be cut on the cutting surface.

  8. If the piece is too long make sure you use a roller stand to hold it or additional help.

  9. Make sure when you place the material to be cut is mark it correctly.

  10. When ready to cut make sure your fingers are behind the finger guard.

  11. Apply foot pedal to operate shear and make the cut.

  12. After finishing cutting, power off the shear.

  13. Wear gloves when you are retrieving pieces that have been cut. Wearing gloves avoids skin cuts or splinters.

  14. Clean the shear unit of any debris and left over material. Make sure the unit is ready for a next job.
